[Bikingest Workplace](1,2,3) -Lesson 3 /Business Communication in Action-
Chuck Salmans: I know you commute by bike just about every day, Shota. Do you think I should start biking to work too?
Ueda Shota: Oh, definitely. And you couldn't pick a better time to do that, because May is National Bike Month. Teams and riders go head-to-head in the Bike to Work Challenge. It's a month-long competition to find New York City's "bikingest workplace."
Pat McMillan: Bikingest workplace. I like that. That's a winningest slogan.
Ueda: People compete to see which workplaces have the highest percentage of bike commuters. Thousands of people who work in the city will be taking part. As workers compete for the bikingest title, they also get a new perspective on New York's streets and what needs to happen to make them safer for cyclists.
Lidia Grace: I'm all for it. But my goodness, how times change. It wasn't too long ago that New York streets belonged to cars and taxis, and only hardcore cyclists would brave the chaotic traffic. Now the city has plenty of bike lanes, bike-friendly tracks and parking facilities. So many people are riding bikes, I've seen them packed together at red lights during the evening rush, spilling out in front of the cars.
Ueda: Yes, New York has become way more bike-friendly, even though the city has become much more crowded.
