We start with North Korea, where a diplomatic detente seems to be getting murkier. Pyongyang is calling a planned summit with the U.S. president into question. Its state-run news agency says if the Americans unilaterally demand the North abandon its nuclear weapons, the country has no choice but to rethink next month's historic meeting.
The agency was quoting First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan. Despite the threat, Kim says North Korea still intends to carry on with the diplomatic process if Donald Trump's administration shows a sincere commitment to improving relations.
Earlier, Pyongyang indefinitely suspended high-level talks with Seoul that were scheduled for Wednesday. Its state-run news agency blamed ongoing U.S.-South Korean air combat drills known as Max Thunder. It says the routine drills go against warming ties.
North Korea has criticized the joint military exercises in the past. But after meeting with Kim Jong Un in March, the South's national security advisor said Kim understood they must continue.
