Artifficial Intelligence Saves Life（１）

Artifficial intelligence is rapidly bringing big changes to life as we know it. It has beenused in self-driving cars. It has beaten chess champions.And it's now helping with medical diagnosis. Doctors in Japan are touting a breakthrough, saying artificial intelligence has saved a patient's life.
Two years ago, a woman in her 60s was told she had a type of blood cancer. For several months, she went through treatment using anti-cancer drugs. But her condition only got worse, and doctors could not figure out why.

(Patient)"I wasn't sure whether I could live until the next day, or the day after that. I didn't expect to live to see this day."
It was "Watson" that saved her life. It's a computer system developed by U.S. IT giant IBM.
Watson concluded that she had another type of blood cancer. And it proposed that doctors use a different anti-cancer drug. She responded well to the new treatment and was allowed to leave the hospital.
Doctors say artificial intelligence technology is opening a new horizon in the field of medicine, beyond human intellect.

日本の医師たちは、（医療診断の）画期的な進歩を称賛しています。
➮sayingの前に（and they are)が省略されています。このような「コンマの後のーing」構文は『分詞構文」と習ったと思います。「何かが省略されている」という意識をもつとすっきりと意味が分かることが多い。

I’m sorry. I’ll be more careful. I just really wanted to live here.
Gary: わかっているよ。君がここに来てくれてうれしいよ。ただ家族のことは忘れないでくれよ、いいね？
We understand. We’re glad you to come here. Just don’t forget about your family, OK?
Sarah: 大丈夫よ、ゲイリーおじさん！忘れないわ。
No problem, Uncle Gary! I won’t.
G&M: よろしい！ Great!
Monica: デザートが欲しい人？バントケーキを焼いたのよ。
Who wants dessert? I baked a bundt cake.
Sarah: はい、わたし！わたし！

◆Grammar to+動詞の原形（名詞的用法）
　I just really wanted to live here.
☑want の目的語つまり「これからしたいこと」の具体的な内容は「to+動詞の原形」（名詞的用法）を用い表します。
◆動詞が「未来に起こる事柄」を目的語にとる場合は「動詞+ing形」ではなく「to+動詞の原形」をとることが多いです。このような動詞にはwantの他に、need,hope,decideなどがあります。
　It’s great to have you here.
あなたがここに来てうれしいです。
☑「It is 形容詞+to+動詞の原形」（～することは・・・です）の構文。Itは仮主語で「to+動詞の原形」以下の内容を受けます。
