NAKAMITSU NEW UN DISARMAMENT CHIEF
中満さん　国連軍縮部門トップに
The UN has appointed Izumi Nakamitsu as its new disarmament chief. She's the first Japanese woman to assume an under-secretary-general post at the UN headquarters.
Since 2014, Nakamitsu has served as an assistant administrator of the UN Development Programme and has led the Crisis Response Unit. A UN spokesperson described Nakamitsu as a very dedicated and professional member of the world body.

"She has been with the United Nations for quite some time and has expertise in a lot of the work we do, whether it's development, whether it's migration, disarmament or other affairs."

Observers say Nakamitsu will face challenges at a time when nuclear powers and non-nuclear nations are at odds over the drawing-up of a legally-binding ban on nuclear weapons.
