Boracay's beaches and clear waters attract more than 2 million tourists a year, but this paradise is facing serious pollution problems.

Local media say about 300 guest houses have ignored a requirement that they build their own sewage systems and instead dump their waste directly into island's canals.

The closure, which starts on April 26th, will reportedly affect more than 30,000 people who make their living on the island, and that revenues of at least a billion dollars will be lost.
