Heat wave bakes Japan　各地で今年一番の暑さ

Many parts of Japan are in the grip of a heat wave, including Tokyo where the temperature on Wednesday reached 37 degrees Celsius.
Japan's Meteorological Agency says glaring sunlight has increased temperatures in eastern and western areas of the country.

Wind patterns have also exacerbated the hot weather in central Japan.

Daytime highs reached their highest of the season in many cities.
The temperature rose to 38.8 degrees in Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture; 38.1 in Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture; 37.5 in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, and 37.1 in central Tokyo.
An NHK survey showed that as of 5:00 PM, about 550 people across the country were treated at hospitals for symptoms of heatstroke.

Daytime highs on Thursday are expected to be 36 in Kofu and Takamatsu; 35 in Nagoya and Osaka; and 32 in central Tokyo.

Monica: ええ。当時、演劇公演の初日が目前に迫っていて。わたしはすごく不安だったけど、あなたのおじさんは、私のキャリアはミシシッピ川よりながくなろだろうって言ってくれたの。彼は間違っていたけど、それが私たちの素晴らしい関係の始まり。彼はいつもすごく紳士的だったわ。

◆Grammar 時制の一致
Your uncle told me my career would be longer than the Mississippi River.

☑上の文では主節（文の中心となる節））の動詞told(言った)が過去形なので、that節の内容（「長くなるだろう」）は過去から見た未来を表すことになります。その場合、that節内の動詞もtoldに合わせて過去形（would be）にします。
