Everyone tell their impressions about Pa’s first qeej concert.
Pa made a few mistakes. But everyone encourages her.
Her cousin, Monzong has listened her playing too. And he says she make them all proud of her. His job is tour guide. And he takes people on canue trips on the Mississippi River. He said he’d love to take them all for ride next week.
Q: What is Monzong’s job?
A: He is a guide.

Tue.
Gary invites sarah for fishin. But that’s the day they’re going Mississippi River trip.
Sarah tells him aout Monzong. It’s a small world ! He was an intern at Gary’s company before he joined the tourism industry.
Gary’s glad he’s their guide. And he says it’s great to explore the Mississippi River.
Q: How does Gary know Monzong?
A: He was an intern at a radio station.

Wed.
Sarah and her friends are off to Lake Itasuca. From there the Mississippi River begins. They haven’t been in a canue before.
Monzong says it will be a long trip, but the weather’s perfect, so he’s sure they’ll all have a great time.
Q: What does Monzong want his passengers to do?
A: He wants them to sit still and enjoy the view.

Thu.
They got to Lake Itasca. Tsutomu said this is Minnesota’s oldest state park. It’s opened in 1981. Amber said why did you know so much about Minnesota but nothing about Japan? Pa said she loved coming here, and nature’s the best place to be in the summer.Then they set up their tents and cooked some dinner.
Q: When was Itasca State Park opened?
A: In 1981

評価の表現。have a low opinion of ～は「～の評価が低い」という意味のイディオムです。反対表現に、have a high opinion of ～(～のことを買う・高評価している)があります。
ジョージは、ヘンリーが自分のことを悪く思っているに違いないと考えていますが、
アルは自分だったら速断はしないと言います。
なんと言っても、ヘンリーは45年結婚生活を送っています。
そしてそれは立派なことです！

George thinks Henry must have a low opinion of him,
but Al says he wouldn’t jump to conclusions.
After all, Henry has been married for 45 years.
And that’s something!

◆I’d like to reconnect with Henry. ヘンリーと再び連絡を取ってみたいんです。
コミュニケーションのための表現。技術用語reconnect(再接続する)は人間同士の結び付きにも使われます。音信の途絶えていた人と連絡を取りたいときの表現です。

ジョージはもう若くはないので、ヘンリーと再び連絡を取りたがっています。
ペニーがヘンリーに電話をして彼の意向を打診します。

George wants to reconnect with Henry because he’s not getting any younger.
Penny will call Henry and sound him out.

◆He thought you disowned him.彼はあなたが彼との縁を切ったと思っていたんです。
誤解を伝える表現。thought～で、「～だと思っていた」という意味を伝えることができます。disown は「～を自分のものだと認めない、～に責任［関係］がないと言う」という意味で、家族のこととなると「～と縁を切る、～を勘当する」という意味になります。

ペニーはヘンリーに電話をすると、彼は完全に不意を突かれて驚きました。
彼はジョージが自分との縁を切ったと思っていました。
それはすべて大きな誤解でした！
Penny called Henry and he was completely taken off guard.
He thought George disowned him.
It was all a big misunderstanding!

◆If it weren’t for your dad, I would have never left home.
　君のお父さんがいなかったら、私は決して家を出なかっただろう。
仮定の表現。文の前半は仮定法のイディオムです。後半は過去の出来事や行動について、実際とは逆のことを言って強調しています。後半はI would never have left home.とも言います。

ヘンリーは、もしジョージがいなかったら、家を出て美しい妻のベスに出会うことは絶対になかったろうと言います。
それから彼は工具箱をジョージに返します。
ま、めでたしめでたしです！
［ヒント］ま、めでたしめでたしです！Well, happy ending!

Henry says that if it weren’t for George, he would have never left home and met his beautiful wife, Beth.
Then he gives the toolbox back to George.
Well, happy ending!
